Ottawa Wolves ‘AA’ Team Coaching Announcement: Welcome Dalyn Flatt and Iain Thomson!
Fresh off the hiring of our amazing ‘AAA’ Coach, Tony Cordina, The Ottawa Wolves are excited to announce the dynamic coaching duo leading our 2025 Spring ‘AA’ Team: Dalyn Flatt and Iain Thomson. With their combined expertise, passion, and dedication to player development, this season promises to be one of growth, learning, and success for our team.
Dalyn Flatt: Former Pro, Grit and Leadership
Dalyn Flatt brings a wealth of experience from his impressive professional career. Drafted by the New York Rangers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Dalyn’s hockey journey is a testament to grit, determination, and a passion for the game.
During his playing days, Dalyn earned a reputation as a tough and fearless defenseman, playing in the WHL and OHL with teams like the Saskatoon Blades, Kootenay Ice, and Owen Sound Attack. Over his career, he amassed over 1,000 penalty minutes, showcasing his commitment to defending teammates and fostering team spirit.
As a coach, Dalyn’s philosophy centers on discipline, teamwork, and a tireless work ethic. He leverages his professional experience to mentor players, helping them develop both their skills and their character on and off the ice. Known for his ability to inspire and connect with players, Dalyn is a proven leader who’s ready to make an impact.
Iain Thomson: Educator, Strategist, and Visionary
Iain Thomson’s coaching journey began in the Greater Toronto Area, where his lifelong love of hockey evolved into a commitment to teaching young athletes. With multiple Hockey Canada certifications, including Coach 1 & 2 and Trainer 1 & 2, Iain has built a strong foundation of coaching excellence.
His coaching resume includes:
Almonte Pakenham Minor Hockey: IP Coach, U9 Head Coach, and U9A Assistant Coach.
Mississippi Thunderkings Rep B: U10 Head Coach for the upcoming 2024–25 season.
Iain’s coaching style focuses on fostering a positive environment where players can thrive. He emphasizes teamwork, resilience, and mental preparation, incorporating innovative techniques like visualization exercises and layered practice plans. His ability to communicate effectively and adapt strategies ensures that every player develops their skills to the fullest.
